You'll Shoot Your Eye Out!

Hello Family,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! Well, I am keeping my commitment by at least updating my blog once a month. Now I realize it is the end of the month, the last week of the month, the last Monday of the month, but hey, I'm keeping my word!

So what is the latest with this little Foto Bella. Well, where to begin... 2010 has been filled with ups and downs, but I am sure I am not the only one who can tought this testimony. In the end, the good out ways the bad and I keep placing one foot in front of the other.  I am fortunate to have taken numerous trips to Florida for work as an education consultant, numerous trips to Chicago for fun, enrichment and running my first 1/2 marathon outside of the great state of Tennessee, a few trips to the 'Ville, one for an exhibition at my alma mater, Fisk University!!

As for my art, I have had several shows in Milwaukee (Nashville) and already have three shows booked into the first three months 2011. My work continues to evolve, and I am using more recycled materials... All the hard work is paying off and I have recently been selected as a featured artist for ABEA-Wisconsin! Click the link to see my feature page... I feel very honored to be with such company!

So now, the big question often is, Where are you now?! Well, I am in Milwaukee and it looks like I will be making roots here thanks to the Milwaukee Art Museum! But that's a story for another post... I have to go and find a my long winter coat!

Many blessings and See you next year!

"Thankful, Thankful, Thankful, Thankfulness...

is flowing from my heart."

Hello friends, there is a gospel song that highlights the feelings of thankfulness, but the person/choir who sings it eludes me at this moment. But nevertheless, it accurately expresses how I am feeling. As we all know, tomorrow is Thanksgiving, a little well known day in the life of every American! And yes, while we get to gorge ourselves on all things festive, I pause at this moment to share a few things I'm currently thankful for.

First and foremost, I am thankful to be loved by my family, old friends and new. I am thankful for transition! I am still in the place where I am growing as a human, a woman, and an artist. Still growing and figuring my place in the world. I am also thankful that this year, while coming to an end, promises to bring new opportunities for the last few days which remain ahead. Determining where I am going to land when it's all said and done. I am also thankful to be at home with my family and break bread with them for another year; surrounding the matriarch of our family.

So what are you thankful for? Be sure and share it.

Back From the 'Ville

Hello Family,

I am back from Nashvegas, sad to leave the 70 degree days behind, but already busy back in the Mil. Funny, I was meeting with one of the REDLine founders today and said, how much I would love to goof today, watch a few movies, eat some pop corn... but I have to keep the party going! My next show is January!

But nevertheless, it was great to see my peeps, even if it was brief.
The best was having my dear friends, the ladies of the BTC, support me during my exhibition at Fisk. Very humbling to be in such a place of history. My DAD also surprised me by attending! This was just great and yes, of course tears were shed, but those who know me well aren't surprised. In addition, I had a chance to exchange a few Photo Bits with my friend Samon (another amazing photographer), breakfast, lunch, and dinner with several good friends! And now back to the grind. If you haven't done so already, please follow me on Twitter at FotoFans. A quick and easy way to keep up with yours truly.

Now Presenting...

Greetings Family!
About 15months ago I returned from a season of connection with myself or dare I say reconnection and adventure with the world around me. As you know, my objective was to grow and pursue my passion of art making specifically photography. Well, in some ways with the next few days this journey is coming full circle...

I am proud to announce a new exhibition opening Friday, November 12. In conjunction with Fisk University's 2010 Homecoming Celebration and the Young Alumni Association I will be sharing several new photographic mixed media pieces. Each piece is simply.... Reflecting the Past. Should you find yourself in the Nashville area; please stop by.

Fisk University, Milo Cravath Administration Building, 1000 17th Ave North, Nashville. Friday, November 12, 6:00-10:00pm. A special artist talk will take place at 5:30pm! I had a recent comment asking to see more updates on this process, new work and the latest in the life of Laci. "Don't leave us hanging!," were the specific comments. I need to do a better job and I want to stay connected with my "peeps!" And so here until then... (or after considering when you read this), read my photography blog at http://www.fotofans.blogspot.com/ or follow me on Twitter @FotoFans! Thanks for following until now and let's keep the party going!

That Long, Seriously?

Hello Friends!
So today I had a lovely email sent to me from the folks at gmail. Basically saying, "hey there? remember us..." Apparently it has been about 7 months since my last post. Who knew! I have seriously been busy ...

In a nut shell, shooting events and creating art, So far this year I have had 3 shows, the third opens Friday. Each time my work has been displayed for 1-4 months. The push at the end is always a little stressful, but the feedback and individual impressions about something you created... Priceless. I am also a resident artist with a group called REDLine. The best way to summarize, it is an art incubator. I have my own studio space, darkroom, and multiple colleagues to learn from and with. The show Friday culimnates my 6month growth period. And I will be showing color!! I still can't beleive it. If you like to learn more, just click on the red link above!

I have also been working in Florida. Trust me when I say I LOVE IT! I am working as an education consultant and go for about a week each month. It is a special treat, making new friends, exploring a new city and creating your own schedule. What I truly love about education consulting is this... You don't have to be the one there day in and day out. 'nuff said! I will be heading back next week. *Side Thought* It was great to be there during the first WI snow storm, but not sure what to think being in FL at the highest (and hottest) point of summer.

Finally, what of my dear sweet Italia? Cara Mia... It is still on my mind. Funny I just say a commercial for the new movie, Eat, Pray, Love, after the book...  I received this book as a gift and made it half way through, perhaps it's time to pick it back up and finish. Several folks thought I was having the same exploration when I first left for Florence. In some ways I feel I'm in the middle of my journey too. Hummm?
